BlackBerryT - Handheld device developed by RIMr which focuses on wireless email communications, but can also run other applications.

Compression - Allows the storage of a two-hour movie on one DVD disc. Compression technology works by analyzing the video data and minimizing the need to store repetitive data. Over 95 percent of video data is redundant, so it can be compressed without any noticeable effect on picture quality.

D-RAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) - The term describes memory within the computer that is constantly changing.

Downconvert - The process which reduces the number of pixels in the scanning format used to represent an image, so that it may be reproduced on a display of lower resolution, such as a conventional television. For example, an HDTV image may be downconverted to an SDTV or NTSC image, but in the conversion significant detail information may be lost.

High Quality (HQ) - Includes comb filter plus white clipping circuit and detail enhancer to give sharper picture.

IDEN - Refer to Integrated Digital Enhanced Network.

MTA - Major Trading Area. A group of counties, as defined by a study conducted by Rand McNally, that represent a geographic area of common business interests and relationships. These areas were used by the FCC to define the boundaries of the new A and B block PCS licences. MTA's are created by combining multiple BTA's.

Palm OSr - The operating system used on PalmT handhelds and other third-party devices, including Sony, Handspring, Kyocera and more.

Quartz Tuning - Electronic tuning that requires no setup and automatically locks in to the strongest signal.

Super Contrast Lens System - Hitachi's exclusive lens design. Multiple, wide aperture precision-molded acrylic/glass elements make up Hitachi's Super Contrast projection television lens assemblies. Special anti-reflective coatings are applied to the lens surfaces and the inside of the lens barrel is blackened to eliminate internal reflections in order to enhance contrast and color accuracy. Designed as a single, coordinated unit, Hitachi's CRT and lens system produces a sharper, brighter, higher contrast image everywhere on the screen.
