Byte - A bundle of data containing eight bits. This is the common size unit for computer data.
Color Key - A printer's proofing system developed by 3M that makes separate acetate sheets of CMYK that when stacked give a representation of the offset printing of a color image.
Color temperature - This describes how white is displayed. Low temperature means slightly reddish, while high temperature means slightly bluish. Standard NTSC white corresponds to the color a glowing hot object would be at 6500ø K
DAT (Digital Audio Tape) - A digital audio recording format that combines the 16-bit audio quality of CDs with the recording capability of a small tape.
Data Compression - The process of reducing the size of a data file, usually accomplished through software processing.
Dot Gain - The effect produced by the expansion of individual dots in a halftone screen when printed onto paper. Dot gain results in a darkening of a printed image and is influenced by the tendency of different papers to absorb ink.
LCOS - (Liquid Crystal On Silicon) - This is another contender to replace CRTs in projection TVs.

Primary Color - A color that is the basis for all other color combinations. The primary colors are Red, Green and Blue (RGB) in light; Cyan, Magenta and Yellow (CMY) in color photographic printing. In offset color printing, black (K) is added to CMY inks to more accurately reproduce an image.
Stereo Audio - Plays hi-fi/stereo rental tapes and records stereo TV broadcasts when used with a stereo TV or decoder using two sound tracks at the top edge of the videotape.
YCrCb - Almost identical to YPrPb. If you connect a YCrCb unit to a YPrPb unit you might have to adjust the color slightly. YCrCb is an older standard uncommon for consumer connections.
