Enhanced Specialized Mobile Radio - Systems that use digital radio transmission similar to other digital technologies. Spread-spectrum modes, such as frequency hopping, are common. One major difference from other networks is that in an ESMR system, connection between users is almost instantaneous, compared with the typical delay required to dial and set up a call in a public cellular network.
Frequency - A measure of the energy, as one or more waves per second, in an electrical or light wave information signal. A signal's frequency is stated in either cycles-per-second or Hertz (Hz).
Interlocking controls - To avoid accidentally changing a camera parameter, some cameras require you to use multiple controls simultaneously to change a setting. This prevents accidental setting changes while carrying the camera.
Interoperability - This refers to the ability of a system or a product to work with other systems or products without special effort on the part of the customer. For example, interoperability would be required for a digital television set to be plugged into a VCR that is plugged into cable with all the components working together.
PCS - Personal Communication Services. Although this acronym is often used to describe many different things, within the wireless industry it describes the new blocks of radio frequency currently being made available for additional competition in the cellular industry.
